Christian Dior couture opens Sydney CBD store...

Australia is now home to yet another exclusive luxury brand.

Christian Dior couture chief executive Sidney Toledano is delighted to have cracked the competitive Sydney market.

Today marks the opening its first flagship boutique in Australia in Sydney. The multi-level store is designed to replicate Dior’s renowned boutique on Paris’s Avenue Montaigne.

The boutique is located in the former Louis Vuitton store on the corner of King and Castlereagh streets.

In recent months, Chanel, Canali, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Miu Miu, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci and Bottega Veneta have either set up for the first time in Australia, opened in more locations, or revamped existing stores.

The brand's CEO Mr Toledano appeared unfazed by recent reports of China’s economic slowdown.

“The world has changed over the last three or four years and the centre of gravity of the global economy is moving towards Asia . . . We are developing our business in this part of the world,” he said.

In December, Dior reported that sales for the half year to October 31 were up 18 per cent at £632 million ($954 million) and said margins had improved.

The luxury French label’s history in Australia goes back to 1947, when David Jones reproduced four garments designed by Christian Dior as part of its “Paris fashion for all” line.

Since 1999, Dior has opened small boutiques in DFS Galleria in The Rocks as well as David Jones in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

The bottom level of the store stocks Dior’s complete range of bags and accessories while the first floor houses ready-to-wear clothing by creative director Raf Simons, as well as an array of shoes, jewellery and watches.

There is a salon on the third floor, accessible only by lift, for VIPS looking for a more exclusive shopping experience.

Men have access to a dedicated Dior Homme boutique, which has a dedicated entry off King Street. Suits, sportswear, denim, leather goods, accessories and footwear are spread across two levels.

“There is a big demand in the world for very high quality, innovative product and brands with real history. The new generation, and in this part of the world I notice even more, they want to know what the history of the company is,” Mr Toledano said.

“They go to the store and want to see it, feel it, understand it ... We want every member of our staff to know all the information so the customer understands what we do. This is our global, long-term strategy.”

Advertised celebrity list included:

ISABEL LUCAS, TINA ARENA, MEGAN GALE, COLLETTE DINNIGAN, GEOFF AND SARA HEUGILL, ZACH & JORDAN STENMARK, MATTHEW MITCHAM AND DIOR’S NEW “FACE”, AUSTRALIAN MODEL NICOLE POLLARD, WHO IS BEING FLOWN IN FROM PARIS TO ATTEND THE EVENT.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D movie premiere; Sydney, Australia...

Hansel & Gretel enjoyed its Australian red carpet premiere tonight at Event Cinemas, George Street, in front of a news media pack of dozens, hundreds of Australian fans, and dozens of security to help control all of the excitement.

"Hansel & Gretel" is a 3-D action flick that reimagines the fairy tale characters as gun-toting badasses played by Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton.

The $50 million film arrived nearly a year after its originally release date. It's off to a decent start with numbers and buzz, but has attracted quite the mixed popcorn bag of reviews. Most fans have rated it with a CinemaScore of "B". Approval rating is 18%.

Here in Australia Paramount Pictures has got right behind the project, and one would think is hoping that the Australian market will generally be more positive and receptive to the film than its friends in the United States and Europe.

If you are a big Hansel & Gretel fan, you will likely want to see this movie. If not...

Promo...

After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches...their past.

DJ Pauly D plays at The Big Top, Luna Park, Sydney, Australia

DJ Pauly D plays at The Big Top, Luna Park, Sydney, Australia...

Last night DJ Pauly D and guests delighted fans at Sydney's Big Top, in the heart of Luna Park, Sydney, Australia.

DJ Pauly D, (Paul DelVecchio) is an American television personality and disc jockey.

Most of the world knows him from being a housemate on MTV's reality TV show Jersey Shore.

Over the past few years, hard working Pauly D has really matured as a DJ and he sure knows how to put on a show and entertain the masses. Various music news outfits event has Pauly D rated in their world's top 10 DJ's, so this largely proves that his substance excels his considerable style. For the past few years he's being playing over 100 gigs per calender year, which explains why he just keeps getting better.

Over 1500 Australian fans attended the concert which was comprised of mainly teenagers (70% girls, 30% guys).  There was even a few 30+ Italian tourists in the crowd, so maybe Pauly D is also contributing to the Australian entertainment tourism dollar.

The guys has loads of charisma and really got into the groove.  Great choice of hot numbers and he made certain to have lots of his good looking girls and guys in the stage backup, to compliment the coolness seen in his reality TV shows.

Most fans were very well behaved, but during the course of the concert there was about 5 incidents of drinks and rubbish being thrown onto the stage, and one young guy hit the fan barricade head first, and we understand he was attended to by medical. It's not like security was lacking, but with a crowd of 1000 + teenagers, some of whom had too much to drink, incidents are going to happen.

Pauly must have played about 100 tracks in his almost 2 hour performance. 'Gangnam Style', 'Most beautiful girl in the world' 'Dynamite' and lots of cool best of electronic dancefloor stuff.

He wore his popular headphones, and his Italian flag laptop computer artwork is something that needs to be seen to be believed.

"Big Jerry" Gialanella and Gary Beadle was also there, as was Australia's own multi talented entertainment industry star Johnny Ruffo.

This show was excellent value for money and judging by the way things went, expect to see Pauly D and friends back down under in Australia again soon.

Did we mention that over the past few years, Pauly D has pulled in over $11 million dollars, enough to earn him a top 10 place on Forbes’ first-ever top-earning DJs list.

On the music and his sound DJ Pauly D told media:

"If I wanted, I could play a f—ing .wav file and just stand there and fist-bump all night, and no one would give a shit,” also disparaging “button-pushers” while admitting to being one himself. The comments drew the ire of top DJs including members of Scandinavian trio Swedish House Mafia. Pauly D remains steadfast about his credentials.

“I’m definitely not a button pusher,” he says. “I use turntables. Yes, I use [DJ software] Serato on my computer that only holds the music, but I’m still controlled by vinyl, and I’ll never lose that art form. Because that’s what I love the most.”

Make no mistake, substance over loads of style is what this world leading DJ is all about - and having a hell of a good time, with party after party being just part of the core business.

Big congrats and thank you to DJ Pauly D, the promoter and all the team who made the event so awesome.

Django Unchained red carpet movie premiere: Sydney, Australia

Django Unchained red carpet movie premiere: Sydney, Australia - 21st January 2013...

No appearance by American director Quentin Tarantino, but the show must go on.

DJ enjoyed its Sydney, Australia premiere today at the State Theatre, and Mr T was not needed to generate media buzz or extra ticket sales. As recently as three weeks ago it was believed that Tarantino would attend the down under premiere. Perhaps strong overseas box office numbers changed his mind - that's only speculation. Tarantino released a statement last week that he was "disappointed" he would not attend Australia this time around.

Don't be surprised if Django Unchained breaks some box office numbers in Australia, even without the "evil" Mr T not stepping soil on the former convict land of Australia this time around.

Better luck next time... he won't need luck... but it's a nice gesture none the less.

The Hollywood Report tells us on the films success:

"Django opened No. 1 in at least 23 markets including the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Belgium and Poland “even with much of Europe buried under snow this weekend,” said Sony.

Starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and Leonardo Di Caprio, Django registered a mighty $9.6 million at 620 sites in Germany, a full two-and-a-half times the market opening for Basterds (Waltz, who also starred in Inglourious is Austrian).

In France, the take was $7.3 million at 612 spots and $5.4 million from 936 Russia situations, $4.8 million at 580 sites in the U.K., $4.3 million at 517 locales in Italy and $3.3 million at 470 situations in Spain".

The film's US premiere was cancelled a few weeks ago in the wake of the school shooting in Connecticut.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the tragedy in Newtown, CT and in this time of national mourning we have decided to forgo our scheduled event. However, we will be holding a private screening for the cast and crew and their friends and families," a spokesperson for The Weinstein Company said in a statement.

Plot etc:

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation. Exploring the compound under false pretences, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival…

Written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Quentin Tarantino, DJANGO UNCHAINED is produced by Stacey Sher, Reginald Hudlin and Pilar Savone. The executive producers are Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Michael Shamberg, Shannon McIntosh, and James Skotchdopole. DJANGO UNCHAINED will be released in the U.S. by The Weinstein Company on December 25, 2012, and internationally by Sony Pictures.
