Stevie Nicks And Dave Stewart Perform At Sydney Entertainment Centre - 29th November 2011

Stevie Nicks And Dave Stewart Perform At Sydney Entertainment Centre - 29th November 2011

You wouldn't usually expect for Dave Stewart to be support for a Stevie Nicks tour, but that's exactly what's happening this Australian tour, and Sydney fans saw it happen at the iconic Sydney Entertainment Centre tonight.

Casual fans probably didn't know that Stewart produced Nicks' new album, In Your Dreams, and believe us - it's a real treat for both Stewart and Nicks' fans.

Brian McFadden acted as a bit of a third wheel, but there's no doubt McFadden still enjoys a strong fan base in Australia.

Nicks performed Fleetwood Mac's Dreams, the band's prized #1 from years gone by.

We also heard numbers from her new A Vampire's Dream, Soldier's Angel.

The new songs featured Stewart on guitar and resonated with the Sydney audience.

If you were a Nicks, Stewart or even a McFadden fan, this is the place you had to be at tonight.

Promotional information secured by the Australia promoter of the tour reads:

McManus Entertainment is thrilled to announce that Brian McFadden will be joining the legendary Stevie Nicks and Dave Stewart as a special guest for the 2011 Australian tour. McFadden will join the bill for the entire tour.

Celebrated musician and songwriter Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics will also be touring Australia for this very special show.

Joining Stevie for these special shows will be celebrated musician and songwriter Dave Stewart from Eurythmics, who co-produced Stevie's new solo album, "In Your Dreams". Fans of both Fleetwood Mac and Eurythmics will be thrilled to know that Stevie Nicks and Dave Stewart will be performing their greatest hits from their respective bands as well as highlights form their solo careers.

"I'm so excited to bring Stevie back to Australia and give her the opportunity to play to her many fans across the country," said promoter Andrew McManus. "Stevie has one of the most unique and recognisable voices in the history of popular music and is also one of the greatest songwriters of all time. And I think there will be a whole new generation of fans due to the recent episode of 'Glee' based on the legendary Fleetwood Mac album, "Rumours."

Apart from Stevie's incredible work with Fleetwood Mac, she has also had an extensive solo career, collectively having more than 40 top 50 hits and selling more than 140 million albums worldwide. Just a few of her many solo hits include Edge of Seventeen, Leather and Lace, Stand Back, Bella Donna, Rooms On Fire and Stop Draggin' My Heart Around. Stevie will also be playing songs from Fleetwood Mac's extensive back catalogue. Some of their most loved songs include Rhiannon, Gypsy, Sara, Landslide, Dreams and Seven Wonders.

Joining Stevie on her Australian tour is Grammy and BRIT Award winning musician, songwriter and producer, Dave Stewart. Dave is best known for his work with Eurythmics and recently co-produced and co-wrote many of the songs on Stevie's latest album, "In Your Dreams". The album closes with the Stevie and Dave duet Cheaper Than Free. And Stevie sang a track with Dave on his 2010 solo album, "The Blackbird Diaries". His music career spans three decades and more than 100 million album sales. Some of Dave's biggest hits include I Only Want To Be With You (The Tourists) and Eurythmics hits Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This), Missionary Man, Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves, Would I Lie To You? and Thorn In My Side.

It's was a wonderful night for music fans in Sydney and a concert that anyone who attended will remember fondly for many years to come.

ARIA Awards In Sydney's Olympic Park: Gotye, Kimbra, Boy & Bear roaring Success - 28th November 2011

It was that time of the year again - the night of night's for Australia's music industry.

What a night it was for the the 25th anniversary ARIA awards at Sydney's Olympic Park last night.

There were so many highlights.

How about Gotye (one of my favorites) winning three gongs, and then of course Prime Minister Julia Gillard (always looking for a bit of good PR) inducted Kylie Minogue into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

Minogue was sincere in her thanks to the he ARIA board for "an incredible honour", saying "I'm a very proud Australian and tonight's award means so much to me". No, Dannii didn't win anything, before you ask.

PM Gillard met Minogue for the virgin time earlier this year while over in Japan while they were special guests at the Australian embassy fund-raising dinner for the tsunami disaster, advised Minogue was "a special Australian" who would take her "rightful place alongside music legends like Joan Sutherland and John Farnham and Paul Kelly" in the Hall of Fame. Nice words of support from PM Gillard, but how much of a music history expert is she? Maybe more than most people know...brave of her to wear the music expert hat.

It was quite a stand out year for Australian music.

Perhaps the biggest success story of the year, at least in the eyes of mass media was, Bruges-born Melbourne artist Gotye (Wally De Backer). They snatched ARIAs for best male artist, best pop release and best single of the year for the massively popular Somebody that I Used to Know, featuring New Zealand-born Kimbra. Kimbra, not to be outdone, snatched her first ARIA for best female artist for her debut album, Cameo Lover.

Featured performances were by Gotye, Kimbra and Boy & Bear, winning an impressive five ARIA awards for self-produced debut album Moonfire, including album of the year.

Guy Sebastian got the ARIA award for highest-selling single for his number one song Who's That Girl.

Sebastian thanked his pregnant wife Jules after picking up his award.

"I couldn't do what I'm doing without her, she's a great chick," he told the press.

Three-time ARIA-award winners the Living End performed brilliantly and won best rock album (The End is Just the Begin-ning Repeating) and most popular Australian live artist, as voted by the public).

The Wiggles got top honours for Children's Favourite, and also skipped into the Hall of Fame and collected the best children's album award for popular Ukulele Baby!

Legendary Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist Billy Thorpe was posthumously recognised for his final piece of work, Tangier. We wonder who will get the award next year, but it's quite likely too early to tell. Thorpe's wife, Lynn, and daughters Lauren and Dusty, collected the award, and fans and media lapped it up.

A bush tucker bag of celebs, including Delta Goodrem, Stevie Nicks, Missy Higgins, Iva Davies, former ARIA Hall of Fame inductee Chrissy Amphlett, actor Noah Taylor and Joel and Benji Madden presented awards.

Goodrem, who won seven ARIAs way back in 2003, put on a star performance and touching tribute to performing artists who we lost over the awards' rich 25-year history.

Western Australia's Drapht, opened the night, snatching best urban album for The Life of Riley.

Drapht thanked Gotye, who also snatched awards for producer of the year, best video and engineer of the year when nominations were announced earlier this month, for "not making a hip-hop album this year" - an insider award type of scenario.

Past ARIA winner Kasey Chambers added to her list of ARIA awards, winning her ninth best country album award for Little Bird.

"We said that if I get this one he'll have to get the one in Tamworth (Golden Guitar award) so we've made that stick," Chambers told journalists following her win.

Last year's winner of best rock album, Birds of Tokyo, won this year's publicly voted most popular Australian artist award, which holds a lot of street cred.

Art vs Science won best independent release for The Experi-ment and Front End Loader won its first ARIA award for best hard rock/heavy metal album, Ritardando.

Highest-selling album went to X-Factor winner Altiyan Childs for his self-titled debut and Guy Sebastian took out the highest-selling single for Who's That Girl.

Puss In Boots Australian Premiere: Sydney's Entertainment Quarter Puss Mania, by Eva Rinaldi

The Puss In Boots Australian premiere took place at Moore Park, Fox Studios today, and it was  quite the cat's meow (and hot alongside the yellow carpet).

It was just about the purr fect time, with the holiday season coming up down under in Australia.

Lots of teen girls attended this this one, with many bringing along their mums.

Sydney media were glued to the yellow carpet and and no kitty litter was required, but bottles of water were popular with the crowd.

Promotional blurb reads "A story about the events leading up to the sword fighting cat's meeting with Shrek and his friends", but that's making it sound too simple.

Vet's and the like will advise you that cats don’t like being sprayed in the face with water. It may go without saying, but most users of a litter box also don’t care to be smacked in the head with a guitar.

Fortunately, we have cartoons like “Puss in Boots” to swing the point home.

Some people know him as Frisky Two Times, some as the Chupacabra. But, most refer to him as Puss in Boots (voice of Antonio Banderas), a feline unlike any other, both because of his famous footwear and his well known cat fighting skills.

After appearing as a sidekick in three “Shrek” movies and numerous holiday specials, it’s great to see an expanded presentation of Banderas’ most beloved role, with Puss bearing more of a resemblance to the famous Zorro. His wicked sense of humour is loved by millions.

DreamWorks Animation and Paramount Pictures have done Puss justice with this production, and we hope the numbers are good for their beancounting friends.  The good news is that it's not a dog of a film.

The puss personality lends itself to fast-paced or is that fast footed adventure and hilarity, to put you and your cat in stitches.

Puss in Boots is a well known entity, but this cat flick also comes across as fresh and very cool for cats.

Australia will not be changing the flicks name to 'Cat In Boots' as the United Arab Emirates has done. Us Aussies remain very high on the original 'Puss'.

Round up the kids of all ages and lick up the action at Puss In Boots. It's truly the cat's meow. 4 out of 5 paws.

Director: Chris Miller
Writers: Charles Perrault, Brian Lynch
Staring: Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Zach Galifianakis

System Of A Down To Do SoundWave Festival Plus Sydney And Melbourne

System Of A Down To Do SoundWave Festival Plus Sydney And Melbourne

System Of A Down To Do SoundWave Festival Plus Sydney And Melbourne
by Eva Rinaldi
24/11/2011
System Of A Down are coming to Australia to headline SoundWave 2012, and will also be doing shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
If you haven't heard of them until now, don't worry - you will be hearing a lot more about these world calibre rockers.
I think that System Of A Down will help ensure that the 2012 SoundWave Festival will be a success, and that the Sydney and Melbourne shows are doing to rock big time. Expect to hear lots of these guys on most modern music radio stations worth their salt salt. They have have been once down, but these days are on the up in a big way.
Who Said What?...
It was 2001’s ‘Toxicity’ that cemented their reputation. With every track tightly coiled, urgent and “cast in layers upon layers of aural intricacy, Toxicity charters new frontiers, yet it’s still grinding rock at its most deafening.” – L.A Weekly
In 2005, against all odds, the completed Mezmerize/Hypnotize project was unleashed and it quickly became impossible to think of it as anything else than one epic piece of work. SYSTEM OF A DOWN delivered, and in doing so have given us one of the great rock double albums of all time….”rarely are albums this thrillingly original”. Q Mag
As the headliners for the 2012 Soundwave Festival, SYSTEM OF A DOWN will be bringing their frantic, frenetic and brutal live assault to Sydney and Melbourne for two headline sideshows only.

Eskimo Joe and Pnau at Russian Standard Vodka Live at the Chapel, by Eva Rinaldi

Eskimo Joe is back in Sydney, Australia, with a gig at Live At The Chapel (aka St Stephens Church, Newton).

If you didn't know the group is an Australian alternative rock band formed by Stuart MacLeod on guitars, Joel Quartermain on drums and guitar and Kavyen Temperley on bass guitar and vocals, in East Fremantle, Western Australia in 1997.

Their debut album, Girl, was released in 2001, which peaked into the Australian Albums Chart top 30, and was certified gold. Their second album, A Song Is a City, was released in 2004 and reached No. 2. It was later certified double platinum.

PNAU, one of Australia's electro-pop's finest, was the support of the evening.
There were about 300 fans present on this cold and slightly damp night in Sydney.

Sponsor Russian Standard Vodka (and a few of their models) were once again on hand in support of Australian music. We don't know if the band drinks Vodka, but if they do, they won't be refused.
While I waited to get into the Chapel I checked out the beautiful tombstones in the cemetery, and it was a good thing I wore my gumboots as the ground outside the venue was a bit damp under foot.

The music kicked off at about 7.30pm and my fave song of the night was Black Fingernails, Red Wine.
It was a fun night and the music was great.

I believe that Eskimo Joe will continue to remain one of Australia's most popular home grown bands, and they are bound to stay in the mix of some of the most requested music on Australian radio.
